Meet Our Moms: Nicole & Glenis
Here at Maggy London, there’s nothing we love more than stories about incredible women. That’s why this week, we’re introducing you to the women who inspire us the most: our moms.
Stay tuned as we celebrate the women who started it all.
Meet Nicole, our Customer Service Associate, and her mom Glenis, our Sales Coordinator (That's right — they're both employees here!).
Q&A
We sat down with Nicole to talk about what makes her mom so special.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY WITH YOUR MOM?
The summer before my senior year of high school I was in a college program at Syracuse University for 6 weeks. I had really high expectations (no parents, no rules!) but to my surprise, I was EXTREMELY homesick. Something you should know about me is that I love food, but I am a very picky eater. I wasn't eating well and joked with my mom about how I was surviving off of French fries. During the third week of the program, my parents came visit for the weekend and my mom brought me a giant container of black beans and avocados — my ultimate favorite foods! Needless to say, I did not starve and ate well for a whole week…thanks so my mom! The following week, I received a care package from home stuffed with more avocados and snacks from my mom.
WHAT DO YOU ADMIRE MOST ABOUT YOUR MOM?
My mom is the type of person who sacrifices herself for the people she loves. She always goes above and beyond and this is what I admire most about her. I have been vegetarian for a long time (which is not easy in a Dominican family), but my mom has never complained. She always makes sure there is food I can eat even if it means making additional food. She does so much that sometimes I question if she is even human.
TELL US ONE SPECIAL THING NO ONE ELSE KNOWS ABOUT YOUR MOM.
She's an awesome mom and SUPER emotional, especially when it relates to her kids, but doesn’t like excessive physical contact. My little brother and I love to tease her by constantly hugging and poking at her. She’ll give us “the look” and we always get a kick out of it!
WHEN DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL?
I genuinely think my mom is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She is beautiful ALL the time. I don't think I've ever seen her not look good…even on Sundays when she does her with her hair rollers she still looks awesome. I remember taking a picture together and saying, "How is it that my mom is so much better looking than me?" — I know she isn't always aware of how beautiful she is, so I'm glad I get to remind her right now (I’m also really looking forward to looking that good when I'm her age).
IF YOU COULD TELL YOUR MOM ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Mami, I appreciate every single thing you do for me, even when it does not show. You are the woman I aspire to be (even though that may be tough to do because you've set the bar pretty high). You are without a doubt the best mom I could ever ask for. I don't know who I would be without you. Thank you for always being there when I need advice…and for making the most amazing tacos and spaghetti I will ever taste!
