How to Design a Picture-Perfect Tablescape

featuring Guest Author Lauren Cermak

Thankful. Definitely the word of the season! With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I am reminded of how much we have to be thankful for. This is why Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. No presents, only presence! The fact that we take this time to simply enjoy the company of those that we love – that is magical!

Today, I am so excited to share some Thanksgiving inspiration with you. Whether you are hosting the entire family or throwing a Friendsgiving dinner, I hope that these tips helps you savor every moment!

A Picture-Perfect Tablescape

– THE CENTERPIECE –

When it comes to centerpieces, be sure not to use anything that would block the view and hinder conversation from one side of the table to the other. While a large floral arrangement is beautiful, I'm afraid it makes for awkward dinner conversations. Instead, opt for garland!

For this tablescape, I wanted to create a lush seasonal garland that incorporated plenty of Fall elements. Below are the steps to creating your own!

SUPPLIES

  • 2 six-foot garland in greenery of your choice (I used faux Boxwood!)

  • 2 bunches of real greenery

  • 1 bunch of gold eucalyptus

  • Cranberries

  • Mini pine cones

  • 3 pomegranates

  • 1 box of figs

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place both pieces of 6 foot garland down the center of your table. By placing one on top of the other, you will be able to get a lush look for your base.

  • Once you have your faux garland in place, begin taking springs of the real greenery you chose and place them throughout the garland. I love that by using three different types of greenery (the garland and both bunches), it creates such depth.

  • Once you have the greenery in place, begin placing the pomegranates and figs. Be sure to space them out evenly throughout the centerpiece. Now, do the same with the cranberries and mini pine cones.

  • For the final touch, place your small sprigs of gold eucalyptus evenly throughout the garland. I like saving this piece for last so you can see which areas need a little filler.

Now, step back and take it all in!

– THE PLACE SETTINGS –

When deciding on a place setting, it is important to first know your menu. How many courses will you have? Do you need soup bowls? Spoons? You get the point! The fun begins once you decide which pieces you need. For this tablescape, I chose to play off of the centerpiece in each place setting by using golds, greens, and a sprig of eucalyptus tucked under each napkin.
