Meet the Bosses: Introducing Jill
To celebrate Boss’s Day 2018, we decided to introduce you to the bosses we know best. Stay tuned all week as we introduce you to seven (yes, seven) women who run the show right here in our own company — the women behind the clothing you love.
Introducing Jill, HR Director
Meet our HR Director, Jill! When she’s not as work, you can find Jill laughing with her tight-knit group of lifelong friends, fixing up vintage furniture (her favorite hobby!), or spending as much time as possible with her daughters & grandchildren.
Keep scrolling to read a quick Q&A with Jill.
WHAT IS YOUR JOB TITLE?
My business cards say HR Director, but my title should be Jill of All Trades!
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY IN YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE?
I go about my daily routines — overseeing the Payroll, HR & Benefits, speaking with employees one-on-one, dealing with compliance tax & insurance related issues with State and Federal Agencies...until an emergency call comes in and I have to deal with a problem that comes up! (I’ve been called Josephine the plumber, since I also deal with facility issues!).
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER (SO FAR)?
When I was hired I oversaw the Payroll Function, which was done on an archaic system. We upgraded the system, got better reporting capabilities, and streamlined many of the previous payroll-related tasks. A short time later when my predecessor retired, I was offered the HR position. I returned to school...which was not easy as a single mother of two children with a full time job! However, it is very rewarding that the company recognized the hard work (and double duty) and gave me the opportunity to grow and take my career to a new level.
TELL US ABOUT A TIME YOU OVERCAME A CHALLENGE IN THE WORKPLACE.
With all of the changing laws and compliance issues, there are always new challenges in the world of HR. A few years ago we upgraded the Payroll/HR system (again) in order to improve functionality and add services to accommodate healthcare compliance. It was extremely challenging but the end result has been great!
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR A FELLOW CAREER WOMAN WHO MIGHT BE READING THIS?
I think self confidence is an important trait to have. Getting used to public speaking in uncomfortable situations is a must!
